VC educates students during Sexual Assault Awareness Month
VICTORIA, Texas — April is sexual assault awareness month and Victoria College is making sure its students know about the resources available to them.
Along with Mid Coast services, an hour-long presentation was organized to deliver key information about what sexual assault is.
Students learned more about what can be done to help prevent sexual assault.
“We have a partnership with Mid Coast Family Services where they come on campus every Tuesday, and that way they can meet with students. Whether it happened a long time ago, or if it was recent, they can see them for that,” Melanie Gerdes, Victoria College Licensed Counselor.
There are many forms of sexual assault and college students are more susceptible to becoming a victim.
The presentation reveals women are more likely to be assaulted, and in most cases the assault is committed by someone they know.
