VC continue mission to aid students with creation of JP’s Market
VICTORIA, Texas — Victoria College is expanding their ability to aid their student’s success through the creation of JP’s Market, a food pantry and clothing closet for students and their families.
JP’s Market was recently built inside the student services building at Victoria College and was originated as a collaboration between VC and the University of Houston-Victoria.
The market provides nonperishable food items, tolietries, diapers and clothing to any VC student with a need for a little extra help.
Victoria College is also accepting food and money donations to help keep the market stocked up for their student’s use.
“We know our students have lives off this campus,” stated Director of Advising Bobby Cubriel.
“Whenever they hit Ben Jordan, Ben Wilson or Red River, we know that they’ve got stressors. And so, we want to make sure that we’re combating those two. What happens outside of school affects their success inside the classroom. So, this is just one of those ways that Victoria College is committed to helping them succeed. “
JP’s Market will be open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 6 PM and Friday from 7:30 AM to 5 PM.
Below is the official press release story from Victoria College’s Website:
Victoria College has broadened its commitment to helping students succeed with the creation of JP’s Market, a food pantry and clothing closet located in the Student Services Building on VC’s Main Campus.
“Victoria College was honored to help hundreds of students get through the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey by providing food, clothing and other necessary items,” said VC Advising & Counseling Services Director Bobby Cubriel. “But it doesn’t require a natural disaster for college students to be confronted with obstacles along their educational journey. We hope JP’s Market will help make that journey easier for some to navigate.”
JP’s Market provides nonperishable food items, toiletries, diapers and clothing to any Victoria College student who needs a little extra help.
“We have students who struggle to make ends meet, and we know this can have an impact on their academic success,” said VC President Dr. David Hinds. “JP’s Market is one of many services that Victoria College offers to help our students overcome any obstacles they face as they pursue their goals.”
JP’s Market originated as a collaboration between Victoria College and the University of Houston-Victoria. Both institutions partner with the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent to meet a growing need, so the pantry was named after the mascots of both institutions (JP stands for Jaguars-Pirates).
JP’s Market is taking donations from the public. Priority needs are diapers, female hygiene products, jarred baby food and baby formula. Monetary donations are also accepted.
