Uvalde resident charged with Felony Money Laundering

Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted the traffic stop leading to the arrest

FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas – On Wednesday, Jan. 13, afternoon, around 2:36 p.m., Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo vehicle. According to Sheriff Keith Korenek’s report, the traffic stop took place on I-10 westbound at the 661 MM near Flatonia, Texas.

During contact with the driver, Smith observed criminal indicators. He then received consent from the driver to search the vehicle. Smith located an aftermarket false compartment built in the engine area under the manifold. Smith located several vacuum-sealed bundles of US currency inside the compartment.

Drug Interdiction Sergeant Randy Thumann and his K-9 “Kolt” assisted with the traffic stop.

Law enforcement arrested Jose Flores, 54 of Uvalde, Texas. They then transported him to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center. Flores was charged with Felony Money Laundering. Smith seized a total amount of $39,490.00.
