US 59 to close completely on Thursday through Friday morning

The closure is part of the ongoing frontage road construction project on US 59

VICTORIA, Texas – Hunter Industries, LTD, will completely close US 59, near the SH 185 overpass, as part of the ongoing frontage road construction project on US 59 between US 87 and SH 185. The closure will take begin Thursday, Oct. 6, at 10 p.m. and end by 7 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, weather permitting.

Work crews will detour both northbound and southbound traffic onto the frontage roads using the current exit ramps for SH 185. This will allow construction of the new turnaround bridge at SH 185. Travelers needing to reenter US 59 may then proceed through the intersections to enter US 59 using current entrance ramps.

Hunter Industries, LTD, received a contract with a bid of $13,531,313.19. This project, which began in March 2022. builds continuous one-way frontage roads from US 87 to SH 185, a turnaround at US 87 and improved entrance and exit ramps. The tentative completion date is March 2024.

Motorists should expect possible traffic delays and use caution when driving through the work zone. They should also keep the following tips in mind:

  • Slow down and always follow posted work zone speed limits. Speeding is one of the major
causes of work zone crashes. Remember, traffic fines double in work zones.
  • Pay attention. Workers and heavy equipment may only be a few feet from passing vehicles.
  • Be patient. Delays from roadway construction can be frustrating, but it only takes a few extra
minutes to slow down for a work zone.
