Upper Level Heat Ridge Beginning Northeastward Shift; Rain Chances for Weekend?
The large, dominant upper air ridge that has brought near record highs and prompted heat advisories is now finally beginning to shift to the northeast. This motion will allow deep layer tropical moisture to migrate from the northern Gulf of Mexico into the Texas coast for the weekend, giving isolated showers and thunderstorms through Monday. A weak tropical wave will enhance rain chances slightly Tuesday through Thursday. Otherwise, things remain very quiet in the tropics. In the Central Pacific, however, Hurricane Lane continues its approach toward Hawaii.
