UPDATE: VCSO Identify Person Found Dead near Bloomington

Update from the Victoria Sheriff’s Office:

VICTORIA, TX – On March 20, 2017 at approximately 5:25 am Victoria County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call about a male possibly passed out next to a green car in the 700 block of Old Bloomington Road. When deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered that the male was deceased. Deputies identified him as John Hartley, 45, of Bloomington. Due to the suspicious nature of the death an autopsy was ordered by Justice of the Peace Stuart Posey. The VCSO is investigating the case as a homicide. The VCSO is working in cooperation with the Texas Rangers and the Victoria County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities are investigating a death on Highway 185 and Old Bloomington Road.
Officials say just before 6:00 Monday morning, Victoria County Sheriffs deputies responded to a call of a man possibly passed out on the side of the road.
When deputies arrived, they found a Hispanic male in his 40’s deceased next to a green compact vehicle.
Authorities say the circumstance of the death is suspicious in nature, and deputies will be treating the investigation as a potential homicide.
The District Attorney and the Texas Rangers were called out to the scene to assist as well.

“When deputies arrived on scene they checked the vitals of the male that was on the side of the road. They realized he had been deceased for some time. at that point they blocked off the scene and began to conduct an investigation,” says Chief Deputy Boyd.
The body was collected and will be sent off for an autopsy. D.A. Steven Tyler says the evidence will be processed and the investigation will begin.
