Ryan Silva killed in crash Saturday

Updated 12:00 p.m. 3/11/19:

The victim in Saturday’s fatal crash has been identified as Calhoun High School Sophomore Ryan Silva.

Saturday a 2:44 p.m. Victoria Police Department officers responded to the intersection of North Navarro and Zac Lentz Parkway in reference to a traffic crash.

A black Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by 40-year-old Christopher Dickens of Louisiana was traveling eastbound on Zac Lentz Parkway when it struck the side of a grey Chevroloet Venture driven by 50-year-old Delfina Paloma of Port Lavaca.

Paloma was traveling northbound on Navarro and failed to stop at a red light, causing Dickens to strike the side of the Venture rolling the can to its top side.

Due to the impact, the backseat passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Silva was pronounced dead at the scene by JP Rivera.

Ryan’s mother, Delfina Paloma, and younger brother were transported to DeTar Hospital to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

No citations have been issued at this time.

On Saturday, March 09, 2019, approximately 02:44 PM, Victoria Police Department officers responded to the intersection of North Navarro and Zac Lentz Parkway in reference to a traffic crash.

A black Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by 40 year old Christopher Dickens of Louisiana was traveling eastbound on Zac Lentz Parkway when it struck the side of a grey Chevrolet Venture driven by 50 year old, Delfina Paloma of Port Lavaca. The Venture was traveling north bound on Navarro and failed to stop at a red light, causing the Silverado to strike the side of the Venture rolling the van to its top side. Due to the impact, the backseat passenger who was not wearing a seatbelt, a 15 year old male, was ejected from the vehicle. The deceased has been identified as Ryan Silva of Port Lavaca. Ryan’s mother, Delfina Paloma and younger brother were transported to Detar hospital to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Ryan Silva was pronounced deceased at the scene by JP Rivera.

No citations have been issued and this is an ongoing investigation.

VPD responded to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Navarro and Zac Lentz around 2:45 Saturday afternoon.

According to VPD, a Chevy Silverado was driving eastbound through a traffic signal, when a Chevy Venture was driving north on Navarro ran a red light, which caused the Silverado to wreck into it. The impact caused the Venture to roll over on its side.

While the Venture was rolling, a 16 year old male, was ejected from the vehicle. The driver, along with a with a 12 year old passenger were transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries.
“Unfortunately the 16 year old male that was ejected, was deceased on scene,” said Lauren Meaux, Media Relations with the Victoria Police Department.

At this time, the accident is still under investigation, so no citations have been issued at this time. This is a developing story and we will have updates as they become available.
