Update: Drowning victim’s body found after lengthy search

Update 5/28/19:

An update from the Goliad County Sheriff’s Office:

The body of an adult female drowning victim was recovered shortly before 8:00am Tuesday morning from the waters of Coleto Creek Reservoir in Goliad County.

The victim was recovered by Game TPWD Game Wardens in the Twin Lakes area of the reservoir, submerged about 50 feet from shore.

The individual has been tentatively identified; however, her identity is being withheld pending confirmation and notification of next of kin. She was transported to Central Texas Autopsy in Lockhart for a post-mortem examination.

The game warden service is the primary investigating agency, and is being assisted by the Goliad County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident was initially reported to Goliad 911 at 5:51pm on Memorial Day. Sheriff’s deputies and game wardens immediately responded to the scene.

According to preliminary information gathered by authorities at the scene, the woman was boating with two male individuals when she fell overboard. She did not resurface and attempts to locate her in the water by her companions were unsuccessful.

Game wardens searched by boat and sheriff’s deputies searched by land in an effort to locate the victim. The search was called off at approximately 9:00pm due to darkness. The search resumed at daybreak on Tuesday, and the body of the victim was located shortly thereafter.

Also assisting in the rescue efforts were the Goliad Fire Department, Fannin Fire Department, and Goliad EMS.

The incident was reported to Goliad 911 at 5:51pm. Sheriff’s deputies and game wardens immediately responded to the scene.

According to preliminary information gathered by authorities at the scene, a female was boating with two male individuals when she fell overboard near the Twin Lakes area of the reservoir. She did not resurface and attempts to locate her in the water by her companions were unsuccessful.

Game wardens searched by boat and sheriff’s deputies searched by land in an effort to locate the victim. The search was called off at approximately 9:00pm due to darkness. The search will resume on Tuesday morning.

The identity of the victim, as well as other details of the case, are not being released at this time.
