Update: Driver in house crash died on the scene
VICTORIA, Texas- At around 1:24am, on Sunday, January 26th, 2020, a Victoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2001 Toyota SUV occupied by two males in the area of John Stockbauer and Houston Hwy, according to a statement from Victoria County Sheriffs. The driver (later identified as Kelvin Montgomery) fled from the deputy who initiated a pursuit leading into the City of Victoria.
During the pursuit, the passenger jumped out of the moving vehicle and was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
The pursuit turned onto Delmar Dr from Houston Hwy. In the 1300 Delmar Dr, Montgomery left the roadway and crashed into a private residence. The resident of the house was not injured.
Investigation revealed that Montgomery was deceased in the vehicle. As per standard protocol, the Texas Ranger Service was contacted and responded to conduct an investigation at the request of the Sheriff’s Office. The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to conduct the crash investigation. Justice of the Peace Whitaker ordered an autopsy of the deceased.
The release of further information regarding this incident will be pending the conclusion of the independent investigation of the Texas Ranger Service.
