Update: 9mm bullet casings link suspects to drive-by shooting

Update 3/13/2019:

New information has been obtained from court documents regarding the drive-by shooting that happened early Saturday morning on March 9, 2019.

Once the three subjects involved in the drive-by shooting that happened on Saturday March 9th were detained, a search of the vehicle was conducted. Victoria Police Department found four firearms located behind the front passenger seat floorboard.

Most notably, officers found that the bullet casings of a 9mm Keltech rifle in the backseat of the vehicle matched the bullet casings found at the crime scene on Bonham Street.

VPD also stated that a man named Joe Huerta was grazed by one of the bullets on Bonham Street.

Both of the adult suspects are being held on $40,000 bond at the Victoria County Jail.

Original Story 3/8/2019:

Victoria Police Department identified the two adult men invovled in a drive-by shooting that happened 2:22 a.m. Saturday on Bonham Street.

Marvin Charles McCooks, 20, of Victoria is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, posession PG 2>4=<400g, and engaging in organized criminal activity.

Tenavius Harper, 19, of Humble is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, posession PG 2>4=400g, and engaging in organized criminal activity.

A 15-year-old was also detained. His identity will not be realeased because he is a minor. Two other suspects ran from the car.

Unlawful carrying a weapon will also be presented as a charge to the District Attorney’s Office.

The Victoria Police Department officers and detectives continue to work on this case. The investigation is ongoing and at this point, it is undetermined if the other shootings are related.

18-year-old Dasan Nesmith was shot several times by multiple people in a black car earlier in the evening on Mistletoe Avenue. Nesmith was conscious and breathing when he was transported to a local hospital, and is now in stable condition.

The official VPD press release is below:

On Saturday, March 9th, at approximately 02:22am, Victoria Police Department officers effected a traffic stop on a black Toyota Corolla in the 5600 block of North Navarro. Just prior to stopping the vehicle, a shots fired call was dispatched in the 1700 block of Bonham Street. Officers on this call advised that a potential vehicle involved in this shooting was a black four door sedan.

Shortly after the vehicle came to a complete stop, two subjects exited the vehicle and fled from police. The three remaining occupants were detained. The investigation revealed multiple guns, narcotics and spent shell casings were located.

Two adults were arrested and a 15 year old juvenile was detained.

Update:

The Victoria Police Department is currently investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred on the 3500 block of Mistletoe Ave on Friday evening.

VPD says 18 year old Dasan Nesmith was shot multiple times by multiple people in a black car. The victim was conscious and breathing when he was transported to a local hospital.

VPD says officers collected shell casings at the scene.

The suspects left the scene in a black sedan going towards Sam Houston Ave and then went north.

VPD says around 2:20 am another shots fired call on Bonham St. VPD performed a traffic stop on a black Toyota Corolla with 5 people in it.

3 of the people were arrested while 2 ran away.

VPD says there was several guns in the car, and all the suspects were arrested on charges of Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, engaging in criminal activity and possession of control substance.

One of the suspects arrested was a juvenile.

VPD states that these two shootings are still under investigation, and they are not sure if these two shootings are connected.

The Victoria Police Department is currently investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred at the intersection of Bonham Dr and Mistletoe Ave on Friday evening.

Lt. Fetters of VPS says an 18 year old male was shot 3 to 4 times by two people in a black car.

The victim was conscious and breathing when he was transported to a local hospital.

Lt. Fetters says officers collected shell casings and conducted interviews at the scene.

Lt. Fetters says they will interview the victim whenever he is treated for his injuries.

The suspects left the scene in a black sedan going to Sam Houston Ave and then going north.
