UHV Women’s Soccer Ready To Open Season
Jaguars Start Play Saturday At The Cage
Victoria, Texas —
UHV soccer’s regular season starts Saturday afternoon at the Cage.
The UHV women are coming off their third trip in four years to the Red River Conference tournament. Three sophomores, Elizabeth Reyes, Hayden Janner and Katy Castanuela, are key players returning from last season. The Jaguars also return two goalkeepers: senior Amanda Bautista and junior Freja Magnussen. The Jaguar women won their last pre-season scrimmage last weekend on the road. I asked two Jaguar women how positive it was to end the pre-season on a high note.
Said Janner, “We did really good at bringing what we practiced into the game. We found our forwards up top and we worked really well together. That helped us in the long run. “
Said center midfielder Nisa Ollivierre, “We had many positive things. We worked on a lot of stuff in practices. We worked on finding our forwards and our midfielders and getting the ball just through and finishing. A lot of that showed within the game.”
UHV men’s and women’s soccer’s open regular season action at The Cage Saturday afternoon against Oklahoma City. Ladies game first at 1:00.
