UHV Women’s Golf Signs H.S. Player
UHV women’s golf signs a player for next fall. University of Houston-Victoria head golf coach Christi Cano today announced the signing of Jenna Alvarado to the UHV women’s golf team.
Alvarado is a senior at Mansfield Legacy High School and is a four-year member of the Lady Broncos golf team.
She finished 10th at the Class 5A, Region II Tournament last season as a junior and earned recognition on the District 10-5A second team the last two years. She was the Bronco Cup Match Play champion last season and has won two North Texas Junior PGA events.
Alvarado was a LaDainian Tomlinson High School Honors nominee as a junior, won the Teacher’s Choice Award in 2017 and was all-district academic both as a sophomore and junior.
Alvarado is the first signing for the Jaguars for the 2019-20 season.
WACO, Texas (AP) – The fourth-ranked Baylor women have signed guard Jordyn Oliver to a national letter of intent
Oliver, a five-star recruit from Prosper, Texas, was the lone signee for the Lady Bears on Wednesday.
Oliver averaged 20.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.1 steals as a junior last season while leading Prosper High to a 31-4 record. Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said Oliver had been committed to the Lady Bears since her sophomore season.
“Her skills speak for themselves, which is why she is one of the top prospects in the nation, and we are blessed to have a top prospect from our home state in Texas,” Mulkey said.
Oliver participated in the 2017 16U FIBA World Championships for Team USA, which won the gold medal.
allum McNeill (Houston Oaks Golf Club), KC Lim (The Republic Golf Club), and Justin Engel (Royal Oaks Country Club) will represent the Southern Texas PGA at the 2018 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship supported by Srixon | Cleveland Golf | XXIO, GolfAdvisor.com, and John Deere on November 15-18 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
McNeill, Lim, and Engel, along with 129 PGA Assistant Professionals and Associates will compete in the four-day, 72-hole event for a spot in the 2019 PGA Professional Championship, which is slated for April 28-May 1 at Belfair in Bluffton, South Carolina. The Champion will also receive $12,000 of the $150,000 purse.
The top-four finishers, if eligible, will earn a berth in next year’s National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship, to be held November 14-17 at PGA Golf Club.
In September, McNeill topped the leaderboard by two strokes over Lim at the 2018 National Car Rental Southern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship supported by Srixon| Cleveland Golf | XXIO, GolfAdvisor.com, and John Deere hosted at The Hills Country Club in Austin. McNeill recorded rounds of 67-73 for a 36-hole total of 140 (-4) to capture his first Assistant Championship title.
Engel captured the last qualifying spot in a six-hole playoff with Matthew Cain (Spanish Oaks Golf Club).
