UHV women lose to OLLU
VICTORIA, Texas — A 4-1 loss by the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars to the Our Lady of the Lake Saints was tough for the Jaguars on Saturday.
Not only did it spoil Senior Day for the Jaguars is also sends them on a long trip in the opening round of the Red River Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship.
The Jaguars fall to 9-6-2 overall and 5-2-2 in conference and will be the sixth seed in the upcoming RRAC tournament. The Jaguars will face off against No 3 seed University of New Mexico next Friday or Saturday in a quarterfinal match for a chance to reach the tournament’s championship round in Texarkana, Texas on Nov. 7-8.
The Saints improve to 10-4-1 overall and 7-2 in conference and claim the RRAC regular season title with the victory. They will have a bye in the first round of the postseason playoffs.
Andrea Villarreal gave the Saints all the fireworks they needed in the first half with a pair of goals in the second and 14th minutes.
UHV’s Consuelo Luna (JR/Sanger, CA) cut the lead in half in the 21st minute as she fired a shot past the Saint’s goalkeeper off a pass from Nisa Ollivierre (JR/Baytown, TX).
The Saints would add another pair of goals in the 30th minute and 88th minute to secure the win. It was the ninth straight victory for the Saints over the Jaguars.
The Saints dominated on offense out shooting the Jaguars 24-2 with Luna getting off both shots.
Amanda Bautista (SR/Houston, TX) was in goal for the Jaguars and finished with 10 saves.
During halftime, the Jaguars recognized seniors Bautista, Maria Grogan (SR/Cheyenne, Wy.) and Nathalia Canizalez (SR/San Antonio, TX) who were playing their final home game as Jaguars.
