UHV Student Life office, library hosts Jazz & Friends Community Ready

The story-time advocates the rights of transgender, non-binary youth

VICTORIA, Texas – On Thursday, Feb. 24, the University of Victoria-Houston Student Life office and UHV Library will host a Jazz & Friends Community Reading. The event will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at UHV University Commons, located on UHV Library’s second floor.

This story-time event is celebrated nationally each year. It inspires caring community members to advocate for the rights of transgender and non-binary youth. UHV students will read four children’s books, including:

  • “I Am Jazz,”
  • “Calvin,”
  • “From the Stars in the Sky to the Fish in the Sea,”
  • and “Born Ready: The True Story of a Boy Named Penelope.”

“I Am Jazz” is a story of a transgender child, based on the real-life experience of Jazz Jennings. Jennings later became a spokesperson for trans kids everywhere.

The event is open to the Victoria community. You are welcome to invite friends and family to join you at the event. All parents who attend will enter a drawing to win a free copy of one of the books. Free snacks and drinks will be provided while supplies last.
