UHV softball wins both games in doubleheader against Huston-Tillotson

Game one; 8-0, game two; 5-4

The UHV Jaguars softball team played a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at home against the Huston-Tillotson Rams at the Youth Sports Complex Center.

In game one the Jaguars score two runs in the first inning starting it off with a triple from Kayllie Lopez. UHV gets  four-run third inning. The Jaguars added two more runs in the fifth inning and the defense holds the Rams to no runs shutting them down and winning 8-0. Cameron Steen pitched all five innings for UHV allowing just three hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Out of the 71 pitches she threw 41 were strikes. Ashley Reyna, Zoë Miranda and Jessalyn Burkett hit doubles.

Alexi Wade got the start on the circle for UHV in game two. The Jaguars started the game this time with three runs in the first inning. Bats would go quiet until the fourth inning when the Rams scored three runs. The Jaguars scored two runs themselves in the fifth to expand their lead with an RBI single by Jessalyn Burkett and Jackie Longoria. The Rams kept this one a close game. Kayla Dow came tp pitch in the fifth inning. In the seventh inning the Rams were trailing 5-4 but the Jaguars defense stop them from getting any more runs and they hang on to their one-run lead to get the 5-4 victory. Dow gets the win for UHV. Jessalyn Burkett had a double and Jackie Longoria had two RBI’s.

The Jaguars softball team will play on the road on Friday in a doubleheader against Xavier.
