VICTORIA,Texas–The UHV softball team is heading to the NAIA National Championship.
The Jaguars will once again be entering their third postseason series as an underdog with the No. 10 seed in the 40th annual NAIA Softball World Series that begins on Thursday, May 27 in Columbus, Ga. Freshman pitcher out of Shiner, Cameron Cowan has been sensational on the mound for the Jaguars this season and is excited to head to the big stage.
“It’s amazing like who would have thought. We started so rough and we’re just all coming together and it’s just the best feeling in the world,” said Cowan.
The Jaguars (22-21) will open play against the only other fourth-seed bracket winner Mount Mercy (36-15) on Thursday at 9 a.m. Cowan knows it wont be easy, but its something they are capable of.
“We know we have to fight. We have to keep the energy up and we have to keep pushing. Evey game we know we’re not expected to win, but we know we’re going to come out on top. We never think were going to lose,” continued Cowan.
The winner will face No. 2 seed Oregon Tech (46-8) in a winner’s bracket game on Friday at 3 p.m.
