UHV Softball Stays In NAIA Top 25
Jaguar Head Coach Reaches Milestone
UHV softball, staying at number 23 in the first NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 regular season poll for 2020.
It is the 82nd time for the Jaguars to be ranked in the top 25 since beginning the program in 2008. The Jaguars have now been ranked in the top 25 in eight straight NAIA polls. In their Red River Conference opening three-game sweep at LSU-Alexandria, UHV softball head coach Lindsey Ortiz picked up her 200th career coaching victory. I asked two Jaguars about the big sweep of their arch-rivals.
Said left fielder Angel Davidson, “It was a good feeling coming in. Especially since in the rankings for our conference they were ranked above us. Coming in and getting a sweep over the people that were supposed to beat us is a good feeling for us.”
Said right fielder Emily Flores, “When pre-season rankings came out they were ranked above us, even though we swept them last year on their home field. It was a good feeling to know we beat them even though they were ranked above us. ”
UHV softball starts play at the Gulf Shores Invitational in Alabama Friday where they will face number ten Georgia Gwinnett and number 18 William Carey.
