UHV softball signs a star from the Land Of Leather. After helping guide her Yoakum Lady Bulldogs to three playoff appearances in four years, Lauren Caka is set to take the next step in her softball career.
The recent Yoakum graduate signed a letter of intent this week to play softball for the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars.
The middle infielder/pitcher was a three-sport standout athlete for the Lady Bulldogs competing in volleyball and basketball as well as softball. She was also a varsity cheerleader and a member of the National Honor Society and FFA.
The past two seasons Caka was named the team’s MVP in both softball and basketball and was selected the team’s MVP in volleyball this past season. She is a four-time all-district player for the Lady Bulldogs and was chosen as the District 27-3A Newcomer of the year her freshmen year.
She was selected first team all-district as an infielder her sophomore and junior seasons and was named a first-team pitcher this past season.
In basketball, she earned all-district accolades all four years and was selected to the all-district teams in volleyball that past three seasons.
She was not only successful on the field, but in the classroom as well where she was fifth in her class of 103 and was named academic all-district each year in each of the three sports she participated in.
“I chose to go to UHV because it is such a pretty, small campus, everybody is so friendly and welcoming, and I get to continue playing the sport I love – softball,” said Caka in making her commitment.
Caka plans to major in education while attending UHV.
