UHV Softball Signs Player For 2018
UHV softball signs a third player for 2018.
Continuing to get an early jump on the 2018 season, University of Houston-Victoria softball coach Lindsey Ortiz announced her third signing for the 2018 recruiting class.
Utility player Lisa Sosa, a senior at Corpus Christi Mary Carroll High School, has signed a letter of intent to play softball for the Jaguars beginning in the 2018 season.
Sosa has played catcher and the middle infield for the Lady Tigers and has earned district recognition at each position during her first three years with the Lady Tigers. As a freshman, she was named to the all-district second team as a catcher, then earned honorable mention all-district honors as a sophomore and was first team all-district last year at second base. She earned Golden Glove recognition all three years.
Sosa helped the Lady Tigers to a runner-up finish in District 28-6A last year and a run to the regional semifinals where Carroll fell to 10th-ranked Weslaco to finish 24-13. During their 2016 playoff run the Lady Tigers swept San Antonio Holmes, Schertz Clemens and San Antonio Johnson, before losing in a best-of-three series to Weslaco 2-and-1.
In 30 games last season, Sosa compiled a .360 batting average and a .408 on-base percentage with a .483 slugging percentage. She had 32 hits, scored 26 runs, drove in 21 runs behind eight doubles and a home run, while stealing 11 bases.
“I have always wanted to attend UHV and when I stepped onto the university campus, I felt the connection and knew the college was for me,” said Sosa in making her commitment.
Sosa plans to study biology to become a physical therapist while attending UHV.
Sosa joins Friendswood’s Ashley Adkins and Ashley Reyna of Harlingen as members of the 2018 signing class.
