UHV softball rolls past Kansas Wesylan

The University of University-Victoria Jaguars softball team threw two three-hit shutouts at the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Monday at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex.

Cheyenne Galindo (SO/Ganado, TX), Michelle Revels (SR/Corpus Christi, TX) and Jackie Longoria (SO/Edinburg, TX) teamed to keep the Coyote bats quite in the opener, a 10-0 run-rule victory in five innings.

Kelsey Tidrick (JR/Port Lavaca, TX) and Peyton Branham (SR/Houston, TX) then teamed up to again limit the Coyotes (7-7) to just three hits in another five-inning run-rule victory with an 8-0 decision.

Revels, named the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second straight week on Monday, continued her torrid pace in the opener driving in two runs. Also having RBIs in the first game were Emily Flores (JR/Houston, TX), Marisa Mendoza (JR/Houston, TX), Ashley Reyna (SO/Harlingen, TX), Alyssa Adames (SR/Victoria, TX), Tidrick and Galindo.

UHV blew the game open with a six-run second and then added a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings.

Galindo, named the RRAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, worked three innings allowing three hits and no walks, while striking out two to earn the win and improve to 5-2. Revels and Longoria each pitched a hitless inning, with Revels also recording a strikeout.

The Jaguars (13-3) scored in every inning in the nightcap and out the game away with a solo run in the fifth when Gabby Davila (SR/Houston, TX) drove a ground between the legs of the KWU second baseman scoring Adames from second.

The Jaguars had solo runs in the first two innings, added two more in the third and three in the fourth.

Revels, Reyna and Angelica Davidson (JR/Portland, TX) each had two RBI in the game, while Adames added another.

Tidrick worked four innings, allowing all three hits while walking one and striking out one. Branham pitched a hitless fifth with two strikeouts, but had to work around two walks.

UHV will return the RRAC play this Thursday and Friday in New Mexico when they go against the University of the Southwest.
