UHV Softball Releases 2017 Schedule
UHV softball will be looking to defend its Red River Athletic Conference regular season title when the Jaguars open the 2017 collegiate softball season on Feb. 10-11 at the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth.
UHV head softball coach Lindsey Ortiz announced her schedule Thursday that has the Jaguars playing in two tournaments and 40 games. Of the 40 games, the Jaguars will have 10 homes dates and 20 games at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex.
The Jaguars are coming off a 38-15 season where they claimed their first RRAC regular season title in their first year in the conference with a 25-3 record in the RRAC. The Jaguars also earned the eight straight trip to a conference tournament and fourth trip to the NAIA Opening Round Tournament in the past five years.
The Jaguars will waste little time in opening RRAC play as they meet Huston-Tillotson in a pair of doubleheaders to kick off the conference schedule on Feb. 17-18 in Austin. The Jaguars then head out to New Mexico to take on the University of the Southwest for four more conference games on Feb. 24-25.
UHV’s home opener is scheduled for Feb. 21 with a doubleheader against Schreiner University. The rest of the Jaguars home schedule will include Indiana Tech (March 11), Texas Southern (March 21), Langston (March 24-25), Texas A&M-Kingsville (March 28), Jarvis Christian (April 7-8) and Our Lady of the Lake (April 21-22).
The Jaguars will also compete in the Gulf Shore Tournament (March 3-5) and have road games at LSU-Alexandria (March 17-18), Texas College (March 31-April 1), Texas Southern (April 4) and a neutral site game with defending national champion Oklahoma City on April 13 in Farmers Branch.
Oklahoma City eliminated the Jaguars last season from the NAIA Opening Round in the championship game, a day after the Jaguars went a record 18 innings in a 1-1 win over Doane College.
The Red River Athletic Conference Tournament is set for May -57 in Farmers Branch.
