UHV Softball Opens Season Friday

Jaguars To Play Ranked Teams In Tourney

UHV softball season starts this Friday.

The Jaguars begin the season ranked number 23 in the NAIA Preseason Coaches’ Top 25 poll. UHV returns 10 players, five of them seniors, from last year’s team that won the Red River Conference regular season championship and made the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. Our Sean Coffey talked with two of those seniors about winning four straight scrimmages last weekend in Seguin.

Said outfielder Marissa Mendoza, “It actually felt very great. Just seeing us all on the field, and seeing how everyone — everyone can play the position. We can rotate in and out no matter what, and we know the job’s gonna get done.”

Said utility player Angel Davidson, “It’s a good feeling going in, knowing that we’ve been working hard for the past couple weeks. Every day at practice, trying to get little things done to try and get the big picture taken care of. And it’s nice to know that all of our hard work is paying off in getting a couple of wins in Seguin.”

UHV softball opens the season Friday morning at the Southern Collegiate Sports NAIA Invitational at Gregory-Portland. The Jaguars first take on Langston at 10:00.
