UHV Softball Makes NAIA Top 25

Jaguars Ranked For First Time In Over A Year

UHV softball’s great start to the season, getting national attention.
The University of Houston-Victoria softball team returns to the NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 poll Tuesday for the first time since earning the No. 24 rank in the 2018 preseason poll.

After opening the 2019 season receiving votes in the poll, the Jaguars moved to No. 20 in the season’s first regular season poll released Tuesday.

Currently 13-3 on the season the Jaguars played a strong non-conference schedule, going 3-3cord against teams listed in the preseason poll. The early schedule paid off as the Jaguars received 191 points in the first poll, 18 points back of No. 19 Baker (Kan.).

The Jaguars have now been ranked in the Top 25 poll at least once every year since they began the program in 2008

Two of the Jaguars’ losses have come at the hands of the top two teams in the nation – Oklahoma City and Science and Arts of Oklahoma, ranked No. 1 and 2 respectively in the preseason.

Tuesday, Science and Arts overtook Oklahoma City for the top spot. Science and Arts received 529 points and OCU 509 in the latest voting. Southern Oregon remains at No. 3, while Georgia Gwinnett moved up from No. 5 to No. 4 and Marion (Ind.) moved up from No. 6 to No. 7 to round out the top five.

One other Red River Athletic Conference school was recognized in the poll with LSU-Alexandria receiving votes.
