UHV Softball Gets Swept By Texas Southern

Former West Star Hits Two Homers Vs. Jaguars

UHV softball, playing its last home games of the season Tuesday.
I was at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex for the Jaguars vs. Texas Southern Game one. top of the third, no score, leading off for TSU, Madi Marek. and soon after the West grad hits it, she goes into her home run trot. And for good reason. Back in her hometown, Madi Marek hits her third home run of the season to give Texas Southern the 1-0 lead. The Lady Tigers take game one, 8-1. Cheyenne Galindo was the losing pitcher, Michelle Revels had the Jaguars’ RBI. In game two, Madi homers again. The Lady Tigers score five times in the seventh to get the sweep, 11-7. Revels got the loss. Two RBI’s apiece for Alyssa Adames and Carmen Spring.

Before the game, I talked with the West Warriors’ favorite TSU softball player. Former West star Madi Marek, now the starting third baseman in her junior season for the Lady Tigers. Marek came home leading the team in runs scored, was second on the team in 22 hits, now leads Texas Southern with four homers this season, along with being tied for third on the team in RBI’s, and she’s made just four errors in 83 chances in the field. TSU is right now unbeaten in SWAC West play. I talked with Madi Marek and Texas Southern softball’s head coach.

Said Marek, “It’s honestly amazing getting to see my family and friends and getting to play against some of my rivals in high school. It’s really amazing.”

Said coach Tony Barker, “She’s worked extremely hard. She’s come back knowing that this is her senior year. She put the work in over the summer as well as in the fall. She’s getting the results that she wanted.”
