UHV Softball Drops a Pair to Oklahoma City

FARMERS BRANCH – Two key final innings rallies spelled doom for the 22nd-ranked University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars on Saturday, as they dropped a pair of games to second-ranked Oklahoma City.

The Stars plated two unearned runs in the top of the seventh for a 3-1 win in the opener before the Jaguars dropped a 6-1 decision in the night cap that was settled in an international tiebreaker in the eighth inning.

The Stars (38-1) used a solo home run in the third to grab a 1-0 lead in the opening game. The Stars then took advantage of three UHV (26-8) errors in the seventh to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Jaguars broke up the shutout when Aubri Hockenbury opened the inning reaching on an error before scoring on a fielder’s choice ground out by Michelle Revels.

The Stars grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning of Game 2 and it appeared it would be all OCU pitcher Abby Meador would need.

Meador held the Jaguars hitless through six innings before Hockenbury opened the seventh with a solo home run on a 2-2 count to tie the game.

The Stars struck right back behind home runs from Kali Pugh and Stephanie Koisher to plate five runs and grab a 6-1 lead.

The Jaguars will look to rebound from the losses when they take on Schreiner University in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday in Kerrville.
