UHV Soccer gears up for this upcoming season
UHV Lady Jaguars holding their first practice of the season Tuesday at the cage.
Head coach Adrian Rigby says this first practice is to get familiar with the players and push them to bring out their maximum effort.
The Lady Jaguars finished last season with a 7-6- 1 record. Some of this year’s goals are to make a run and make the Red River Conference tournament. I spoke to Coach Rigby and Center Defender Maria Grogan about returning players showing the new players the ropes of Jaguar soccer.
“We have some experience, and we have some players that have been here awhile whether it was as a true freshman or transfer, but they have come through, and they have played in some close games last year,” adds Head Coach Adrian Rigby. “They showed that they have been here, and they got better and better. , so we are looking forward to them helping us take the next step to help us win a conference championship.”
“Since there are a lot of young girls we have to show leadership and kind of i don’t know how to say this but be very vocal because these girls are going to be a little shy and a little nervous,” tells Maria Grogan, Defender. “You know just being vocal and giving encouragement is always positive too.”
UHV starts the season with their red and white scrimmage on Friday and then their home opener is Monday at 5pm against the University of Texas Rio Grand Valley.
