UHV professor encourages students to register to vote with YouTube video

VICTORIA, Texas – With the election drawing closer. A University of Houston-Victoria professor shared a YouTube video with his students online, informing them how to vote. Many younger voters often get scrutinized for not being politically involved or aware, yet Craig Goodman wanted to make sure his students were prepared this time around.

“Getting registered to vote, Texas has a deadline. It’s 30 days before election day. So that means, if you want to vote in November, you have to be registered by October 5, 2020, before the midnight hour.

Since Texas doesn’t have an online voter registration option, Goodman joked with his students that they have to get stamps or “sticky things” in order to mail in their registration.

“In Texas, the problem is especially acute because we don’t allow for online voter registration,” Goodman said. “Texas is one of nine states, I believe that does not allow for online voter registration. I kind of make a joke with my students that if they want to get registered to vote, especially right now, they need one of those sticky things. They are called stamps, they don’t know what they are.”
