UHV Men’s Soccer Adds Two Signees
Jaguars Sign Two Houston-Area Players
University of Houston-Victoria men’s soccer coach Adrian Rigby today announce the signing of two Houston area athletes to the men’s soccer team beginning with the 2020 season.
Alief Hastings’ Osvaldo Polio and Klein Forest’s Daniel Villarreal have signed letters of intent to play soccer for the UHV men’s soccer team.
Polio, a midfielder, has served as team captain for Alief Hastings the past two years. A four-year letterman, he was named all-district first team as a junior and helped his team reach the playoffs all four years. He led his team in assists as a junior.
“Osvaldo is an intelligent center midfielder who will be able to provide creativity to our midfield core,” said Rigby. “He is a shift player with very good movement to be able to get on the ball. We’re looking forward to seeing Osvaldo be a force in the midfield for years to come.”
Polio has also been successful in the classroom where he is in the top 15 percent of his class and has taken honors and AP classes.
“UH-Victoria is the place to be pursuing high education,” said Polio on making his commitment. “It’s a beautiful campus built on top of excellence that will develop my career as a student-athlete working towards a degree.”
Polio plans to study kinesiology while attending UHV.
Villarreal is an all-district first team defender from Klein Forest. A four-year letterman, he helped his team to a district championship his freshman season. His teams also set marks for least amount of games lost and least goals conceded.
“Dan is a solid outside back with good IQ and technical ability for the position with his quick decision making and knack for winning 1v1 duels,” said Rigby. “Dan has the ability to get forward and has a good understanding of when to get forward and when to stay at home.”
Villarreal has also been successful in the classroom where he has made all As and Bs in his senior year.
“I chose the University of Houston-Victoria to allow me to play at a high competitive level and make me the best student-athlete I could be,” said Villarreal in making his commitment.
Villarreal plans to study kinesiology while attending to UHV.
