UHV Men’s Golf Winds Up Play In Kerrville
Jaguars Finish Fifth
Victoria, Texas — The University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars cut three shots off their opening round score Tuesday to finish in fifth place at the Schreiner Spring Shootout at the Comanche Trace Golf Course.
Starting the day tied for fifth with the University of Dallas the Jaguars turned in a final round 305 to take sole possession of fifth place with a 36-hole 613. Dallas finished three shots back in sixth at 616.
Houston St. Thomas overcame a two-shot deficit to claim the team title over first-round leader McMurry University. St. Thomas posted a final round 297 to capture the title by six shots at 591, while McMurry finish with a 305 for a 597.
Host Schreiner finish fourth at 602, while California Lutheran took fourth at 605.
Ryan Morant paced the Jaguars posting a 78-74-152 to tie for 14th individually. Juan Day Coy and James Rollins followed Morant at 157 as Coy posted a final round 79 and Rollins an 80.
Benjamin Lake carded the best final round score for the Jaguars with an even-par 72 to finish at 158, while Corey Rodriguez finished at 160 with a final round 85.
Terry Strickland playing as a medalist for the Jaguars posted a 74-81-155 and Jacob Flores added a 79-83-162.
St. Thomas’ Peter Thorseth captured individual honors with a 5-under par 139 with rounds of 69-60. California Lutheran’s Ryan Kyaw and Our Lady of the Lake’s Steve Landry followed in second two shots back at 141.
The Jaguars will return to action on April 1-2 at the Sam Houston Bearkat Invitational.
