Jaguars In NAIA National Poll For First Time Since 2014
The University of Houston-Victoria men’s golf team earned its first Top 25 ranking since 2014 on Friday when the Jaguars were ranked No. 21 in the NAIA Men’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25.
The Jaguars had twice been previously ranked in the regular season poll when they reached No. 24 and No. 25 in 2014. The best ranking for the Jaguars came in the 2012 preseason poll when they were ranked No. 19.
The Jaguars are coming off a strong showing at the San Antonio Shoot-Out where they defeated three top-25 teams on their way to a fourth-place finish in the 16-team field.
The Jaguars, who received votes in the preseason poll, received 173 points in the latest voting and came in ahead of British Columbia, Missouri Valley, Webber International (Fla.) and Tennessee Wesleyan.
Coastal Georgia claimed 16 first-place votes and 527 points to hold down first place in the poll as the top four teams stayed the same. Keiser (Fla.) is in at No. 2, followed by Point (Ga.) at No. 3 and Ottawa (Ariz.) at No. 4. Dalton State (Ga.) moved up one spot to No. 5, while Oklahoma City fell to No. 6.
Rounding out the top 10 are Victoria (BC) at No. 7, Wayland Baptist at No. 8, Texas Wesleyan at No. 9 and USC Beaufort (SC) at No. 10.
