UHV Golf’s First Signee For Next Season
University of Houston-Victoria assistant golf coach Christie Cano today announced the Jaguars’ first signing for the 2017-18 recruiting class.
Mesquite’s Nolan “Parker” Hays has signed a letter of intent to play golf for the UHV men’s golf team during the 2017-18 season.
The senior at John Horn High School has been a member of the Jaguars varsity golf team for four years. He has also served as captain of the Cat Corp (the school’s male spirit group) and competed in the UIL Cheer Competition Squad Texas State Championships. He is also a current member of the North Texas Jr. PGA.
He is a multi-year recipient of the Lighthouse Award, given for inspiring others through your actions, and has been a Jaguar Man of the Year nominee.
Hays is looking to major in education and history with an interest in special education and coaching.
“I hope to return to my high school to be a history teacher with a Special Education certificate so I can support our Special Ed Department, including adaptive PE that I assist in now,” said Hays. “I would be honored to take over as the golf coach when my coach retires and help sponsor our Cat Corp.”
He plans to bring that energy to the UHV campus.
“I hope to be deeply invested in school spirit and pride at UHV, maybe even starting a Cat Corp on campus,” Hays said.
Hays noted he had an easy time in making his decision to join the UHV golf program.
“My high school has a saying, JFL. It means Jags for Life,” said Hays. “But, it isn’t just a saying, it’s a way of life. Living with pride in something is so much bigger than yourself, being of high moral character and inspiring others thru your actions. I live my life by the JFL code.
“When I found the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars it spoke to me. When I visited the campus it reached into the heart of who I am. When I met coach Cano and the golf team, I knew I was at home. UHV is where I will continue to be JFL.”
