UHV Golf Tees Off In Its Fall Classic

Jaguar Men Take First Round Lead

UHV golf’s Fall Classic tournament started Monday.

Benjamin Lake (JR/Victoria, TX) and Ryan Morant (SO/Houston, TX) each posted a 2-under par 69 Monday to help propel the University of Houston-Victoria men’s golf team into first place after the opening round of the 2019 UHV Fall Classic at The Club at Colony Creek.

The Jaguars posted an opening round 286 and are six shots ahead of Blinn College (292), while Tyler Junior College, Blinn College “B” and Our Lady of the Lake share third at 295. The University of the Southwest is fourth at 299, followed by Houston St. Thomas (305) and Jacksonville College (323).

Lake and Morant are tied for second individually three shots back of Blinn’s John Baker who posted a 5-under-par 66. UHV’s Corey Rodriguez (SR/San Marcos, TX), playing as a medalist, is in a three-way tie for fourth at 1-under-par 70

Behind Lake and Morant for UHV, Jacob Flores (SO/Pharr, TX) and Terry Strickland (SR/Missouri City, TX) posted 74s, while Will Paton (FR/Portsmouth, England) is in with a 78.

Playing as medalists, Joseph Hunter (JR/Traverse City, MI) carded a 73, while James Rollins (SR/Liberty Hill, TX) is in with an 86 after day one.

Final round action gets under way Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.

University of Houston-Victoria freshman Jenna Alvarado (FR/Mansfield, TX) playing in her first collegiate tournament posted an opening round 77 Monday and is in third place after the opening day of the 2019 UHV Fall Classic at The Club at Colony Creek,

The Jaguars meanwhile, stand in third place after posting a 329 and find themselves 20 shots back of the leaders Tyler Junior College. The Apaches are in at 309.

Houston St. Thomas is in second at 321, while Blinn College is fourth a 344.

Behind Alvarado’s 77 for the Jaguars, Mia Lerma (FR/Mission, TX) posted an 81 in her first collegiate tournament, while Mary Kate Krueger (SR/Cuero, TX) is in at 84, Jocelyn Villafranca (JR/Cuero, TX) at 87 and Maddie Mattocks at 92. Victoria Garcia (JR/Brownsville, TX) playing as a medalist posted an 86.

Tyler’s Odette Booysen leads the field individual with a 74, while teammate Raelynn Hardgrave follows with a 75.

Final round play begins Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
