UHV Claud Jacobs Golf Tourney Rained Out

Mother Nature again won out Monday in forcing the cancellation of the final round of the UHV Claud Jacobs Collegiate Invitational.

Heavy overnight rains left both the Victoria Country Club and The Club at Colony Creek unplayable on Monday resulting in the calling of the tournament and reverting back to Sunday’s scores to determine the winners.

For the fourth time in five years, Oklahoma City captured the women’s title after posting an opening round 313. The Stars also claimed the top two individual spots in the tournament as well.

Emma Allen, playing as a medalist, won individual honors with an even-par 72, while Anna Mikish tied with Loyola-New Orleans’ Julchen Narwark for second with a 2-over par 74.

Tyler Junior College finish second in the team race with a 327, while Schreiner University was third with a 329.

The UHV women finished seventh posting a 368. Shelbi Vincent (SR/Nederland, TX) lead the way with an 83, followed by Viviana Yzquierdo (FR/Barbers Hills, TX) with an 88, Jo Ellen Canales (SO/Corpus Christi, TX) a 93 and Reid Whaley (SO/Nederland, TX) a 104.

For the men, Wayland Baptist took the team honors with a 36-hole total of 595 to edge out Tyler JC by three shots. Tyler finished at 598. Our Lady of the Lake A placed third with a 605.

Wayland Baptist’s Sentanio Minnie and Tyler’s Ethan Bozner tied for first in the individual race. Both posted 2-over 146s.

The UHV men’s A-team finished fourth posting a 624, while the B-team followed in fifth at 624. The A-team posted rounds of 317-305, while the B-team was in at 320-304.

Cristian Esparza and Terry Strickland paced the A-team with a pair of 151s, while Juan David Coy had a 155, Paul Ferrette a 167 and Adrian Saenz a 168.

Preston Woodard led the B-team and had UHV’s best score with a 148, followed by Kaleb Presley at 154, Brett Currie 164, Corey Rodriguez at 173 and James Rollins had a second round 75.

Kirby Amburg, playing as a medalist finished with a 162 for the Jaguars.
