UHV campus expansion to make room for new degree programs
A local university is expanding, in order keep up with the growing educational needs of the Crossroads.
Doctor Vic Morgan, President of the University of Houston Victoria, spoke at this mornings Economic Development Partnership meeting, about the ongoing expansion at the UHV campus. Doctor Morgan gave a video presentation, showing how the new buildings will look like when they are completed. The buildings that will be constructed include a new students center, student housing, a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics building, otherwise known as the STEM building, as well as renovations to the old town plaza mall property that UHV purchased. Morgan says that these expansions will be necessary in order to accommodate the new degree programs the school will be presenting.
“An expansion of engineering programs in general, expansion of our computer science, gaming, and robotics, as well as other programs – art, music, theatre. the kind of things that most universities offer,” Morgan said.
Funds for the UHV expansion project was raised through the student approved student center fee, state bond funds, as well as funds collected from student dorm rent. Morgan says that the student center, stem building, and renovation of the town plaza mall property is expected to be complete by the end of two thousand nineteen.
