UHV Ben Wilson improvement project underway
Here is a look at the project so far
VICTORIA, Texas – The University of Houston-Victoria has a major construction project underway.
The project began in 2015. According to UHV President Bob Glenn, the Ben Wilson Improvement Project is centered on the section of Ben Wilson St. that divides the UHV campus from Airline Rd. to Red River St. It will reduce the street to one lane in each direction.
The project will also add grass and landscaped center dividers from the north end of campus to Red River St. It will add crosswalks in front of UHV University Commons, as well.
A 40-foot tower will go up nearby and serve as a centerpiece for the UHV campus.
“We have been evolving over the years, we started out with just one building,” said Glenn. “Our campus is constantly moving in the right direction. This will give us a chance to give the city of Victoria a real point of pride. A university in the state of Texas that everybody can point to be be proud of.”
The finished design will also include ample space for drivers to pull over for emergency vehicles. Work on the project will begin in the next few days. Workers will finish mid- to late-2023.
