UHV Baseball Set To Start Season

Jaguars Open At Riverside Friday

UHV baseball, closing in on opening day for season number 12.
The Jaguars return 13 players from last year, including seniors Jacob Atkinson, Ely Gordon, Chase Tamez and Joshua Fonseca. Returnees from the area include Garrett Harrison, Brandon Tipton and Zechariah Vela from Victoria, and Collin Quinn from El Campo. Among the new players on the team, Luis Vargas, who played for the Generals TCL champs last summer and will be the Jaguars starting right fielder. I talked with two Jaguars about how they did in their scrimmages last Sunday against Houston Community College.

Said Atkinson, “We did pretty good. I felt we had a strong lineup and good defense. We have depth as far as backups and we’ll have good pitching.”

Said pitcher Tyler Price, “We looked pretty good. Some rust to knock off before we start the season, but otherwise we looked pretty good. Couple of things to fix and we should be getting it going here pretty soon.”

Jacob Atkinson will be the game one starting pitcher. UHV baseball starts the season Friday at noon at Riverside. The Jaguars take on Sterling College in a doubleheader.
