UHV Baseball Player Earns Conference Honor

Making his collegiate debut, Derek Maciejeski carried a red-hot bat for UHV on Friday and Saturday.

Maciejeski put together three multi-hit games and compiled a .818 batting average to help the Jaguars claim the season-opening series with a 2-1 record over the Arlington Baptist Patriots.

For his play, Maciejeski was recognized Tuesday as the Red River Athletic Conference’s Baseball Player of the Week.

Maciejeski started his collegiate career going 3-for-4 with a run in the Jaguars’ 6-5 opening loss to the Patriots on Friday. The 5-foor-9 freshman right-fielder from Tomball, came right back on Saturday, going 6-for-7 with a run and two RBIs to help the Jaguars sweep a doubleheader from the Patriots.

Along with going 9-for-11 in the series, he also had two doubles, a 1.000 slugging percentage and a 0.833 on-base percentage.

He helped the Jaguars finish off the doubleheader sweep with a bases-load, no-outs single in Game 2 to cap off the Jaguars 9-8 comeback win.

Maciejeski and the Jaguars return to action on Feb. 21, when they host St. Edward’s University in a 5 p.m. contest at Riverside Stadium.
