UHV baseball drops season opener to Arlington Baptist

UHV baseball opened its 10th season Friday night at Riverside Stadium against Arlington Baptist. The Jaguars maintained the lead through six innings, but gave up three runs in the last inning to drop their season opener, 6-5.

Andrew Gross, who broke UHV’s single-season home run record last season, started this season with yet another home run, bringing in two runs for the Jaguars. He added another RBI off a single in the fifth inning. Allen Westmoreland brought home the Jaguars’ first two runs with a single in the bottom of the third.

The Patriots won game one of the three-game series. UHV baseball plays Arlington Baptist in a doubleheader at Riverside Stadium on Saturday starting at noon.
