Two VISD powerlifters qualify for state

East and West will both send powerlifters to state

VICTORIA, Texas — Both VISD high schools will be sending girls powerlifters to state.

At Saturday’s regional powerlifting meet in Pharr, Titan freshman Alyssa Sauceda qualified for state with a total lift of 1,040 lbs. Sauceda finished with personal records for the squat (440 lbs), bench (225 lbs) and deadlift (375 lbs) to punch her ticket to Abilene. The freshman had previously won titles at the Calhoun, Edna and Tidehaven meets, named best lifter at Tidehaven.

For West, senior Lacey Littles qualified for state with a total lift weight of 760 pounds, good for 12th place overall. Littles won gold at both the Ganado and Palacios meets earlier this season for the Warriors. Fellow West powerlifter Jazmeen Reyna just missed the cut for state, finishing 18th with a total lift weight of 575 lbs.
