Two VISD Hoops Teams Look To Continue Win Streaks

East Girls, West Boys In District Race

Two VISD basketball teams, looking to keep winning streaks going Friday night.

The East girls, riding a six-game winning streak, putting them in third place in district at 9-2. Now the Titan girls host ninth ranked Veterans Memorial Friday night. East lost the first meeting between the two teams last month. Head coach Yulonda Wimbish-North told me what her Titans must do better in the rematch.

“When it started off I felt they had more energy or just more grit about them. We’ll have to come out ready to play. We’re gonna have to defend.”

Last year, West boys basketball won just one district game. Now, the Warriors are in the middle of a four-game winning streak, putting them at 5-3 and in fourth place in the district race. Two Warriors told our Sean Coffey the biggest difference in the team from last year.

Said Omar Posada, “We believe and we have confidence. I believe we didn’t have that last year, and I believe we have that this year.”
Said Andrew Shelton, “Definitely the focus. We’re more focused during practice. We don’t mess around as much. And then effort and hustle. We’ve been doing that a lot more. And then that’s pretty much it.”
