Two Victoria I.S.D. board candidates receive support, campaign donations from area realtors

VICTORIA, Texas – Two of the candidates running for school board seats received support and donations today from the Victoria Area Association of Realtors.

Mandy Lingle, a substitute teacher, and Estella De Los Santos, current board member, each gave brief presentations about their platforms at the organization’s headquarters Wednesday morning. Lingle received a $2,000 donation and De Los Santos received a $1,000 donation.

“It feels great and I feel honored to be supported by the realtors,” De Los Santos said. “It really shows that they’ve done their homework and they really want what’s best for the community. The old adage, ‘so goes the school, so goes the community.’ So we’re on the right track and it really shows me that VISD, that we’re doing the best that we can and we’re doing a great job with the students that we have and the community wants to continue on the track that we’re on. I’ve been an educator all my life, I taught in the VISD elementary school, middle school, high school, and now I’m teaching at the University of Houston-Victoria as a professor.”

“It feels amazing that Victoria area realtors are behind me,” Lingle said. “I’m excited about this opportunity.  My background, I grew up south of Houston in Alvin, graduated there, and then went off to Texas A&M University to get an information systems degree, and then I got my master’s in accounting from the University of Houston at Clear Lake. I started working for corporations, I was at a consulting firm, consulting companies how to better their processes. So working with clients, building that relationship, working on a team to solve a problem, which I think are all great skills for a school board member. It feels amazing, it takes a village to raise good kids, it takes good parents, good teachers, and good community-minded members, just like the Victoria area realtors association, to step up and do things like this, this is amazing.”

Lingle faces Dale Zuck, an insurance agent, for the seat in District 4 and De Los Santos is running against Kenneth Wells to keep her District 2 board seat.
