Two UHV Teams Earn NAIA Scholar Team Honors

The University of Houston-Victoria’s softball and men’s soccer teams were among the 1,862 teams named as NAIA Scholar Teams for the 2017-19 academic year, the NAIA announced on Friday. The distinction requires that the cumulative GPA of the athletic team be at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale as defined by the institution.

The UHV softball team compiled a cumulative 3.20 GPA, while men’s soccer had a 3.02 GPA. Both teams are repeat winners of the NAIA award.

Men’s soccer will begin their 2018 season on Wednesday, August 22nd at Texas A&M International University. Their home opener is scheduled for Saturday, August 25th vs. Schreiner University. The team is looking to build on a record setting 2017-18 campaign that saw them go 11-3-2 en route to winning the NAIA’s Red River Conference for the first time in team history.

The Jaguars made it all the way to the NAIA National Championship, before falling to the 8th ranked University of Mobile in the first round of the tournament.
