Two UHV softball players earn Red River Athletic Conference weekly honors

Ashley Reyna and freshman Cameron Cowan named RRAC softball honors for week of February 8-14

VICTORIA,Texas–University of Houston-Victoria senior Ashley Reyna and freshman Cameron Cowan delivered for the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars in a short week to earn Red River Athletic Conference weekly softball honors for the week of Feb. 8-14.

The Jaguars were only able to get in two games during the week, but Reyna showed her productivity at the plate to be named RRAC Player of the Week, while Cowan earned recognition as RRAC Pitcher of the Week.

Reyna, a senior from Harlingen, compiled a .500 batting average going 3-for-6 in a doubleheader sweep over NCAA Division III Schreiner University. She finished the series with two RBI, a double, a run scored and a .667 slugging percentage. Reyna also recorded 12 putouts without and error from her first base position.

Cowan continued to show her dominance in the circle as the freshman from Shiner tossed a five-hit shutout in game two of the doubleheader to help the Jaguars improve to 3-3 on the season. Cowan improved to 2-0 as she scattered five hits, did not issue a walk and struck out four in tossing her second complete game of the season. Schreiner hitters batted just 0.172 against her.

Cowan also compiled a .429 batting average in the two games with three RBI, two doubles and a run scored.

The Jaguars won the series 7-6 and 6-1.
