Two out of 24 VISD schools fail to meet standards

The Texas Education Agency released its school performance standards on Monday. The TEA rates schools based on four categories: student achievement,
student progress, closing the performance gap and post secondary readiness. Each school’s rating is based on their STAAR test scores.

In 2012, 13 out of 24 schools in Victoria isd did not meet the standards required, and this year 22 met standards.
The two that did not were Patti Walder Middle School and Crain Elementary School.

Despite the increase in performance, VISD recognizes that there is still more work to be done.

Shawna Currie, the VISD Communications Director told us, “We’ve implemented new positions called lead teachers at each of those campuses that will help to support our teachers that are on the campus and help them with instruction and any supports that they may need. We’ve also added an additional assistant principal for instruction to help provide additional support on those campuses as well.”

This is the last year for this evaluation system, next year the Texas legislature will implement a different set of standards for schools, focusing less on STAAR test scores.
