Two men from Edinburg arrested for Smuggling of Persons

The two Hispanic females are now in custody of the U.S. Border Patrol

WHARTON COUNTY, Texas – On Friday, the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of the Colorado River. The unit stopped an orange Nissan Murano on U.S. 59 Northbound of the Colorado River.

During the traffic stop, officials discovered that two Hispanic females, both from El Salvador, were being smuggled by the driver. Officials identified Bryan Garibay, 25 of Edinburg, as the driver of the vehicle. They also identified the passenger as Bryan Lee Lopez, 25 of Edinburg.

Officials arrested Lopez and Garibay for Smuggling of Persons, a Third Degree Felony. They then transported both subjects to the Wharton County Jail. The two Hispanic females are now in custody of the U.S. Border Patrol.
