Two men arrested for aggravated robbery in Matagorda County

Two men were arrested in Matagorda County after a robbery occurred at the Baytown Seafood Restaurant.

On Monday, January 9th around 8:20 pm, the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about an Armed Robbery that had just occurred at the Baytown Seafood Restaurant located at 8765 Hwy 35 in Van Vleck, Texas.

Deputies arrived on scene at 8:30pm and spoke with the Manager of the Restaurant who stated around 8:15pm, a subject came in the front door of the restaurant armed with a shotgun and was wearing a blue hoodie and a bandana covering his face.

The subject racked the shotgun and said where is the money. The waitress working at that time dropped the broom she had in her hands and ran and hid in the back of the restaurant and the manager ran out the front door and across the street to get help and to call 911.

The restaurant manager said he saw the robbery suspect run out of the front door and north on 6th St. to an awaiting car. The car was described as an older model tan or silver sedan. Deputies searched the area for the suspects and the sedan with no results. A sedan which was determined to be the suspect vehicle was located on 7th St. in Bay City a few hours later unoccupied. No money was believed to have been taken from the Restaurant during the Robbery.

Sgt. Steve Riddles led the investigation along with help from other members of the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.

After an extensive investigation which included gathering and analyzing security video from several locations, arrests have been made in the Aggravated Robbery case.

Arrested in this case are Calvert Spears Jr., 29 years old, charged with Aggravated Robbery, 1st degree felony $75,000 bond.

Christopher Donnell Young, 19 years old, charged with Aggravated Robbery, $75,000 bond.
