Two individuals arrested for Smuggling of Persons Tuesday night

WHARTON COUNTY, Texas – On Tuesday, at approximately 11:58 p.m., a member of the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit stopped a silver Chevrolet Traverse. The member stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation on US 59 N., near FM 116 in Hungerford, Texas.

During the traffic stop, three Hispanic, male individuals ran from the vehicle into a wooded area. Deputies searched the area and then called the Texas Department of Public Safety Air Operations to assist.

Deputies, along with the assistance of air support, located two of the individuals. One of the males was from Guatemala, and the other one was from El Salvador.

Officials contacted the US Border Patrol and confirmed both individuals entered the US illegally. They then detained and later turned the individuals over to Border Patrol.

Deputies identified the driver as David Oziel Mancha, 30, of McAllen, Texas. They also identified the front seat passenger as Anakaren Garcia, 33, of Donna, Texas. Officials then arrested and charged both with Smuggling of Persons.
