Two arrested, charged in August Main Street shooting

On Tuesday, 08/14/2018, approximately 10:30 PM, Victoria Police Department officers responded to the 600 block of S. Main St. in response to a shooting.

Joshua Cardenas, 31, of Victoria, had been shot by an unknown Hispanic male wearing a white shirt who was last seen leaving the scene in an older model light colored pickup truck.

Cardenas was transported to a local hospital by the Victoria Fire Department for treatment and was later discharged.

As of Monday, 09/10/2018, the Victoria Police Department in conjunction with the US Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force have arrested 35-year-old Rodolfo Estrada Jr. and 38-year-old John Anthony Gomez, both of Victoria, in connection with the shooting incident. Estrada was arrested at 2600 Salem Rd. on a traffic stop and Gomez at a residence in the 2500 block of E. Mockingbird Lane.

Chief J.J. Craig stated, “Two dangerous criminals were taken off the street. These arrests are great examples of good police work and excellent teamwork with our US Marshals Task Force partners.”

Estrada and Gomez were charged with Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon and both remain in the custody of the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Jail, each with a $50,000 cash bond.
