Tuesday H.S. baseball and softball roundup

Here are Tuesday’s high school baseball and softball results from around the Crossroads:

A major sports milestone was achieved at Riverside Tuesday night. St. Joe baseball defeated John Paul II 13-5 to earn their third district win on the season, improving to 3-5. More importantly, however, the win marked the 600th in the 39-year career of head coach Mike Shimek. He’ll have a chance to earn win number 601 on Wednesday when the Flyers take on Austin St. Stephens.

Andres Ramos had three RBI for the Flyers in the win, while Alex Angerstein went 4-5 with two RBI. Brandon Banda added three hits in St. Joe’s last district contest of the season.

In softball, the Titans got a much-needed win against King to bolster their playoffs hopes with one district game remaining. East defeated the Mustangs 9-6 to improve their district record to 9-6, meaning they can clinch a playoff berth with a win over rival West in their district finale Thursday night at the VYSC.

Playing on the road, West softball improved to 8-7 with a 15-3 thrashing of Moody in five innings. Breeana Young got the win for the Warriors, who got a grand slam from Kat Zarate to help break the game open. Christine Wenske and Sydney Harvey each added triples in the win.
