Tropical system expected to impact South Texas this weekend

Heavy rain expected this weekend with several inches possible.

 

VICTORIA, Texas- South Texas expected to be impacted by Tropical Depression Eight this weekend. This system is expected to strengthen into a Tropical Storm. If it does, it will get the name Hanna.

 

WHAT’S HAPPENING: As of Thursday afternoon, Tropical Depression Eight is churning in the central Gulf of Mexico. An low pressure area has been noticed by satellite and aircraft reconnaissance.

FORECAST TRACK: The latest forecast track from the National Hurricane Center has taken Victoria out of the cone of uncertainty as the center of the storm is expected to head near or south of Corpus Christi. The Crossroads will still be in the lifting side of this storm which means we could still see moderate to heavy rain which could lead to flooding.

IMPACTS: Right now to our area we could moderate to heavy rain this weekend and leading into next week as well. Widespread 2″-5″ with isolated totals up to 8″ possible across parts of South Texas. Winds 40-60 mph with gusts up to 70 mph at times. Seas expected to be 7-10 feet.

ALERTS: Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for parts of the Texas coast. This does include the Victoria, Goliad, Refugio, Calhoun, and Bee counties. Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected in the next 36 hours.
